Another Side of Wrestling

Gaymentube at Youtube has posted another short clip from a Musclehunks.com video with massive bodybuilders wrestling (sort of). At $30 a month, I’m still not convinced of the cost/benefit ratio of a membership with Musclehunks, but like the last clip, this one certainly grabs my attention.

Dude in black shorts is a brick…. house. His abs are cut like crystal, and that bubble butt, narrow waist, and thickly muscled back is blowing my mind. Those thighs look like they could bend steel… and if they can, I’d definitely pay to see that. His stunning opponent is nothing less than a musclegod in his own right, but in this match even his bod is astonishingly outclassed.
Like the last Musclehunk wrestling vid I commented about, one of the charms of this clip is that these guys seem to be actually enjoying themselves. Lot’s of laughter and smiles make me think that rolling around and grabbing each other’s ass is not an arduous task for either of these beautiful young men.
Unlike the last clip, these guys don’t really seem to be throwing each other around. More rolling and mock strikes than actually seeing their gorgeous muscles being seriously engaged. I don’t mind a playful, frat room-style romp at all. Even without aggro, a couple of stunning bodies tossing one another around and enjoying themselves is totally worthwhile. In this short clip, it doesn’t look like they’re actually tossing, though.

One of you homoerotic wrestling connoissers with more disposable income than I have need to give me heads up. Does Musclehunks have enough wrestling as a side dish to make it worth my pennies? What video does this match up come from?

Astride the Soapbox

A recent comment on this blog sent my mind circling around the question of the role of
homoerotic products and gay liberation. The classic critique of porn is that it objectifies – complex, three-dimensional people are transformed into 2-dimensional objects of lust. Personally I don’t buy this argument at all. Short of a Vulcan mind-meld, any gaze is an objectifying gaze to one extent or another. We are all, at all times, existing entirely within our subjective interpretations (and fantasies… especially fantasies!) of who we see each other and ourselves to be. We’re always filling in each other’s backstories, objectifying, demonizing, valorizing, sensualizing…

These days, gay liberation seems to be circling the drain of heterosexualized partnering. Our thought-leaders feed us the notion that our self-actualization will only come once monogamous, dyadic partnerships of boys with boys (and girls with girls) is subsumed underneath the mountainous weight of state sanctioned marriage. I know that I’m swimming upstream here, but “gay marriage” does not look like liberation to me. Sorry to offend… but moving on…
Which brings me back to my original question. Does gay porn and, in particular, homoerotic wrestling have anything to do with gay liberation. At the risk of being scorned as biased (did I mention I’ve invested considerably in the industry?), I propose that what we’re about in the producer/performer/consumer partnership in homoerotic wrestling is more than just a paycheck and an orgasm. I think we’re about something liberating. Just a few points in my evolving thesis:

1. Erotica and porn have always snuck across the lines that divide (urban, rural, black, white, out, in, etc.) and shown up wrapped in anonymous packaging (or more recently with the click of the mouse), at which point all of us have had that moment of realization that we’re not alone.
2. In a bodyphobic society bent on making us all hate the shape, size, proportions, complexion, and impermanence of our bodies, erotica and porn hold the potential of helping to right that imbalance. When it’s done right, when bodies are unflinchingly celebrated, when bodies are adored for the naked beauty they possess, then erotica/porn is a flip of the middle finger to the puritanical oppression of bodies as inherently dangerous, dirty, vile and corrupting.

3. Erotica and porn (and here I think homoerotic wrestling in particular) has the potential to demonstrate an enacted alternative to the straight-jacket world most of us live in. The way things are is NOT the way things have to be, and if we couldn’t imagine an alternative vision of masculinity and male bodies and gay male attraction and gay male lust, then what would we be left with? We’d be left with the lies that we’ve all been taught: that gay men are predatory, despicable, immoral, incapable of love, selfish and self-hating. Some gay porn, sadly, borders on perpetuating those lies, but when I see two powerful, confident, strong, mutually attracted men throwing one another around and pounding on one another, I catch another vision of who we all might be. When I see the fantastically erotic story of domination and submission, power and vulnerability, worship and lust… then I think we’ve got something crucial (and hot!) to teach this world about the fabulous depths of the human condition. If it not only gets us off (and that SHOULD be a priority… see point #2), but also makes us think differently, then that seems like a glimpse of liberation to me.

I guess I’m going on and on today just to say that none of us are alone, we are all beautiful, and however stuck the world may seem at times, the way things are isn’t the way things will always be. Whatever else it does, homo-erotica should remind us that we are powerful and beautiful and possessors of vital insights into the potential of human passion. [Dismounting soapbox.]

Another Side of Wrestling

The homoerotic companies that don’t specialize in wrestling clearly see that there’s a market here.
Another clip on YouTube catches a few minutes of a match between two hulking, massively muscled bodybuilders produced by MuscleHunks. Despite combing the online store, I can’t find this match, so I suspect it may be a members only clip (I’m not a member).

What I particularly enjoy about this clip is that despite the boys clearly being just “messing around,” they appear to really be throwing one another around. And these guys are big enough to really throw one another! It reminds me more of a frat house romp in the chapter room than a typical homoerotic script (not to say that frat house romps aren’t homoerotic… give me a break!).

The hunk in white trunks is a hoot. He’s got a very handsome face, and he clearly really enjoys straddling his opponent’s backside (who the hell wouldn’t!?). He also can’t help but let his narcissist-freak-flag fly, getting totally distracting from his mount gazing at his own reflection in the mirror (02:26). What a hot kick: the musclehunk watching himself dominating another muscle hunk in the mirror… domination, voyeurism, narcissism, probably more than a little worship. Fantastic!
But I think the tanned stud in black trunks is the hotter of the two. He also can’t seem to stay off his back. Even when he has his man down, he seems more than ready to roll over and grapple from his back. The final view of the clip shows this bodybeautiful checking himself out in the mirror, hinting that he’s liking what he sees (again, who the hell wouldn’t!?).
The final hotness that I identify in this clip are the two nearly naked muscleboys at the margins, shouting encouragement. More voyeurism, perhaps some warriors just waiting their turn to jump into the fray.
Nice work, MuscleHunks! If you produced more like this, I’d be a more regular admirer and consumer! And if you had this in your online store, I bet you’d discover a significant demand for more of these muscleboys throwing one around. If anyone knows exactly where to find this little gem, I’d love to hear from you!

A Labor of Lust

In honor of
Labor Day, my thoughts turn to the inspiring (in so many ways) working men. Today of all days, I’m inspired not so much by the hotties in suits and ties, though white collar strip-wrestling is a joy. No, I’m thinking more about the dirty, hardworking, grunt and grind laborers who keep the real engine of society running.

Firefighter hunks have gotten a lot more attention in the past 10 years or so. From NYC to Seattle (and lot’s of places in between), firefighters are stripping down, oiling up, and eagerly presenting themselves for body worship. While I do NOT advocate setting fire to anything just to see if the firefighters who respond are calendar men, I do confess that I fantasize about being trapped by a fire, and having a sweaty, sooty, fireman crash through the door, sweep me up in his arms, and carry me to safety. Oddly enough, he always gives me mouth-to-mouth resuscitation even though I don’t need it, and he’s always bare-chested, which seems like it probably is not regulation uniform.
Police officers also deserve respect, and more than a few deserve much, much more (a pec claw, head scissors, worship…). Hottie cops also have calendars to support their good causes (though not as many… are firefighters sexier than cops?). Firefighters vs. cops seems to be a recurring theme. This clip from the Gordon Elliot talk show features a hunk-competition of firefighters against police officers. Firefighter Sal at 01:37 (worshipped at 4:48) and officer Don at 02:56 ought to battle to submission in a pro-ring to determine the winner. I’m betting on Sal.
And finally, all the credit in the world to the men who put their beautiful bodies in the line of fire. It’s nice to see that our fighting men squeeze in time for wrestling. The sailor on top in this clip has a nice butt packed into those coveralls! The way the smaller soldier in this vid completely dominates the much larger man is totally impressive. And these marines have some nice trash talk (“fuck me! fuck me!”), a ball grab, tight body scissors, and even tickling (someone’s been watching the same sort of videos I watch!). While I do love me a man in uniform, I’d gladly forgo that fetish for a little more peace in the world.
To all the hardworking men, beautiful inside and out – and to all the homoerotic scenarios based on blue collar studs – thanks for what you do, and happy Labor Day!

The Substance of Wrestling

I’m not sure of what sick puppy thought of oil wrestling… but I like his thinking. Of course there’s the Turkish Oil wrestling that suddenly appeared everywhere on the internet a few years back. I still have no idea what the cultural meaning is behind these boys coating themselves in olive oil and shoving their hands down each other’s pants, but I’ve been assured that it’s not sexual. I am willing to concede that it very well may not be sexual at all… to them.
The more explicitly homoerotic version of oil wrestling, or its spawn, lube wrestling, is everywhere. Most of the time its a novelty grope-fest, so it doesn’t satisfy a fetish for hot, aggressive pounding. But it certainly has its own charm. Brit go-go boy Chris Geary has been filming himself and his go-go boy friends wrestling for years now, including several oil matches.
BG East did a few early “filmed on location” oil tapes at a gay club called Paradise. Some of my favorite classic boys show up, including the prototypical bodybuilder-jobber, Wade Cutler. BG East didn’t do much else in the medium until recently having Rafe Sanchez and Sebastian Rios oil each other down (mmmm…. Rafe….).

Can-Am has done over 100 matches taking place, at least in part, in oil. Their recurring script for almost every match used to be: 1) studs wrestle in gear in a ring, 2) studs wrestle in gear in oil pit, 3) studs wrestle naked in oil. I haven’t sampled all the goods, but in case anyone’s looking for recommendations, my first Can-Am purchase ever was Canadian Musclehunk Oil Wrestling 3, with the incomparable ass of Jimmy Royce. Another classic I recently discovered is Can-Am’s early workhorse “Flex” squeezing a totally dominating headlock while erect and nude and straddling the legs of twisted-like-a-pretzel Tom MacKenzie in Hard Nude Oil Wrestling 2. Sometimes it’s nice to see muscleboys get owned… sometimes it’s nice to see them do the owning.
Newer company Naked Kombat has done a few matches in oil (and water, and mud). I like the shiny bodies in Tyler Saint vs. Patrick Rouge, and the audience adds a nice voyeur-performance aspect. But one of my very favorite all-time homoerotic wrestling vids is from BG Wrestling. They’re online store appears to be down, but you can find a lot of their titles at the Can-Am Store. Fantasty Oil Wrestling 4, with Rocky and Talvin Demachio is a prized possession. When Demachio wraps up Rocky in a tight little package and strokes himself at the same time… it brings a little tear to my eye.
Seriously, oil doesn’t make for hard-fought dominating action (unless you’re a Turk), but the tactile look and sounds of muscled bodies slapping and sliding make for an entirely enjoyable sub-genre.

Maskedheads – Revisited

I’m presently working on a new masked/unmasking match in my
celebrity wrestling fiction. So masks are, once again, on my mind. To get us all in the mood, here’s a whole masked hunks production company cleverly called Maskurbate. Here’s a peek-a-boo site with galleries of 5 of their masked men – very generous clips! The mask-motif seems to be built around the idea that hot guys will show off much more “anonymously” behind a mask than they would unmasked. Personally, I’d just like to see some of these guys wrestling. My vote is for a match in a pro-wrestling ring between their ebony god “Lantis,” and the ABS-olutely smoking farm-boy-looking Patrick. There, that put me in the mood to get back to writing. See you in the ring!

A Side of Wrestling

Another “wrestling on the side” type of video,
PowerMen.com has taken some notable stabs at the wrestling genre. In honor of a recent three-way match I just posted to my gay celebrity wrestling fiction group, I thought I’d give a shout out to one of the three-way wrestling (and workout, and worship, and boxing) vids publicly accessible. These fellows have a little more of a roid look than I generally get into, but there’s something endearing about the way that they try to maneuver their overly muscled bodies around in an attempt to grapple. The big guy clearly has no stamina whatsoever, but the boy in blue has some impressive flexibility for being so musclebound. They’re clearly more into being worshipped than in the wrestling, though, as they frequently get distracted with posing, licking their biceps, comparing physiques. In another stab at a wrestling-ish vid, PowerMen constructed the story of two swollen Eastern European muscle heads, squeezed into painted-on jeans over thongs, who get drunk, go back to their hotel room, and inexplicably start to grapple after comparing physiques. Once again, the models are a little more roided out than I typically enjoy and the wrestling is weak, but their commitment to the drunken straight-boys-go-gay storyline is pretty adorable. PowerMen.com hasn’t produced the most entertaining gay wrestling matches, but still, they get a “B-” for effort, in my book.

The Art of Gay Wrestling

I wish that I had talents in graphic arts. I’m so impressed with people with a good eye, particularly those artists who work in the gay wrestling genre. As an adolescent, I tried my hand at drawing the sort of bodies that I found beautiful. I kept notebooks of sketches. Drawing the beautiful men of my imagination became an obsession for a while. The sense of mastery, possession, ownership that came from the act of creating a gorgeous hunk was quite a turn-on. The exercise of posing, displaying, and directing the performance of a lustful work of art was very sexy. I think it’s not far removed from the sexuality of wrestling dominance and submission, to control (and be controlled), to manipulate (and be manipulated), to conquer (and be conquered). Sadly, my adolescent work was crap, and it all got lost at one point or another. Happily, there are more accomplished artists on the net these days producing the work that I only aspired to in my youth. Marc has a wonderful new site for his growing collection of graphic Gay Wrestling Art. The graphic lead for this post (used here with permission from the artist) is one of Marc’s original pieces featuring an unfolding storyline between Superman and Superboy (a subject for a future blog: the subgenre of superhero gay wrestling). As I’ve mentioned before, Savage at Rants Roids & Rasslin’ has a very fun original series of superhero wrestling comics, as well as a group site for several more comic-style wrestling stories. Of course there are the classics, like the Tom of Finland collections, but I particularly appreciate the non-commercial works of sincere artists sharing their talents and inspiring my homoerotic imagination.

Domination Fascination

As one of many gay men who find wrestling a turn on, I ask myself,
why? Besides the obvious allure of scantily clad men pressing and grabbing each other’s sweaty bodies (and that would be enough), I think there’s something more about the sexually provocative nature of wrestling for many gay men. Wrestling also plays to the sexuality of power, domination and submission. Perhaps there’s a primal connection between sex and domination, but it plays a special function for gay men, I believe. As the more testosterone-fueled half of the species, men pitting their strength against one another aggressively is probably rooted in evolutionary behavior of male competition for mates. The strongest, fiercest, and dominant males in most species end up passing along their genes as a result of besting other male rivals to claim their sexual prize (typically females). To physically dominate another male is often the immediate precursor to sex. For gay men at this point in the evolutionary stream, perhaps that primal connection between physical competition and the sexual prize is simply translated for many gay men today. We get off not only on the bodies and their proximity, but also on the exchange of power, the domination and submission, and our genetic coding that ties together one man’s domination and another man’s submission to sex. Of course, this little theory may be totally wrong. But I’m certain that there’s more than just hot bodies and groping that makes wrestling a major genre for gay male porn. It certainly gets my blood pumping to see not only hot bodies battling, but one of them controlling, dominating, possessing the other. The cocky stud, the humiliated hunk, one gladiator clearly toying with another… the story itself is incredibly sexy. All the gay wrestling productions work the angle of domination and submission. Though not strictly gay, the French wrestling video company W&L also does a nice job of telling the domination story.

Vintage Wrestling

“Vintage” wrestling art holds a special place in my heart. The old photos and movies from the dark days of homoerotic suppression capture an amazing slice of history. American obscenity laws around the middle of the 20th century shaped the standards by which men’s bodies could be displayed for the sake of “art.” Videography and photography from early gay “porn” featured men in posing straps, frequently in highly contrived wrestling scenarios clearly intended to display beautiful young male physiques provocatively. Today, the images appear awfully tame, naive even. It’s homoeroticism cloaked in the (barest) pretense of modesty. The scenarios are so melodramatic as to be laughable, non-threatening, even juvenile. But what seems naive from today’s standards landed people in jail under the obscenity laws of the mid-twentieth century. The non-threatening scenarios and strategically covered up men were the flashpoint between a growing homoerotic sensibility and the desperate efforts of the establishment to defend heteronormativity. Although it’s apparently changed corporate hands at least once, AMG (Athletic Model Guild), is still selling the old catalogue and producing some new stuff with a nod to the vintage style. I hear that the 1998 movie Beefcake tells the story of AMG pioneer Bob Mizer (haven’t seen it yet). However far we’ve come in gay liberation and the maturing of the homoerotic and gay porn industry, the classics are still charming, beautiful, and sexy.
