Gay Wrestling Fiction

I came across gay wrestling fiction on the internet about twelve years ago. I stumbled across a sincere little site with very short stories of celebrities mixing it up at various levels of wrestling skill. Each match-up had headshots of the featured celebrities at the top of the page, with a shorthand description of the match. Somewhere along the way, the link died.

I eventually found some gay wrestling fiction of widely differing quality. Men on the Net has a lot of crappy stories, but some that are fun, including some celebrity matches. Mangler’s Wrestling Stories is a multi-author collection that aren’t often celebrity-based, but some are quite homoerotic. I recently rediscovered a celebrity wrestling group through the portal-blog Rants Roids & Rasslin by John Savage. You have to wait for a sign up period to access the Arena Island Celebrity Wrestling stories by Savage, and he’s adamant that you need to participate by leaving comments on the matches, but the writing and the story lines are entertaining and hot (definitely worth it).

Over the past 6 months, I’ve been enjoying writing my own homoerotic wrestling fiction, Producer’s Ring, featuring celebrity personalities. It’s all a fun game of “what if.” What if the world had truly been revolutionized by the internet? What if consumer capitalism expanded to its logical conclusion, where everything and everyone became a commodity for consumption? And most importantly, what if the entertainment-industry built and destroyed celebrity careers based on wrestling match-ups between the actors that keep gay men buying movie tickets? I write about a different world that caters much more explicitly to homoeroticism, but it’s not necessarily a world I’d particularly like to live in. But I greatly enjoy visiting there every so often. I’m currently working on a series of matches featuring Christopher Meloni, inspired by this awesome photo at the top.

Young David

Some great old matches of “Davey Boy” Smith, wrestling as a youth in Britain as Young David, can be found on YouTube. This bout, apparently from the early eighties, features a tanned, very sexy Young David and a hot young incarnation of Fit Finlay. Comparing how amazing he looked and moved when young, one has to wonder (or not, I guess), as to what it took to transform Young David into the bulky, poorly defined mass of a man he was when he worked in the U.S as The British Bulldog. It’s nice to see his older matches available as a tribute to the beautiful man he was and impressive wrestling roots from which he came.

Seriously?

From reading his website, I’d get the impression that former Mr. Japan, Ken Yasuda may take himself a little too seriously. The “samurai warrior of the 21st century” bit is a little gratuitous and potentially ethnically-exploitative, I think. But catching this clip from “Just Another Romantic Wrestling Comedy,” makes me suspect that he may not take himself all that seriously after all. The scene of him all sweaty and aggressive in the ring (despite the fact his opponent is a woman) is very hot! Bodybuilders this big frequently don’t quite do it for me, but there’s something quite beautiful about his shape and motion. And if taking himself too seriously is the worst thing that could be said about him, I give him complete credit for building a stunning physique, competing naturally, and sincerely working hard to promote himself.

Mumbai Hunk

I must confess that I’m not into Bollywood movies.
The melodrama is like eating too much sugar to me. The first taste is great, then it just gets way too much to stomach (someone who knows the genre better can give me some recommendations). But they dependably have HOT, beautiful men with amazing moves. I had a tough time trying to decide which photos of John Abraham to post here, as an example of the beautiful men of Bollywood. Watching him step out of the water is stunning. His body… his eyes… simply fantastic.

Personal Wrestlers

Browsing the internet, I came across this ADORABLE
personal ad. The poster goes by Bay Wrestler, and the photos are candid shots of the BG East and NHB-Battle wrestler Patrick Donovan. It seems like he mostly gets the crap beat out of him in his wrestling matches, but he is stunning to watch – what an amazing chest! I can’t attest as to whether Bay Wrestler is actually, in fact, the same hottie wrestling under the name Patrick Donovan, but if it’s a fake, someone went to a lot of trouble posting a very charming, extensive personal ad with his photos. If it isn’t him, how disappointing to answer his ad and find someone else waiting for you!

And on the subject of my NOT being a stalker, I stumbled across Mitch Colby’s MySpace profile (Facebook, too) just a few days ago. As I posted
earlier, he’s one of my current favorites in the homoerotic wrestling video genre these days. His MySpace profile includes a lot of pics of him at his bar in Florida, including several with another favorite of mine, Zack Vazquez. What a nice, small virtual world. And just to repeat, I’m NOT stalking (though I suppose that’s what a stalker would say). And I’m hoping not to infringe on any copyrights, here. I just enjoy spreading the word about beautiful men, and all the better when they wrestle!

True Bonus

One of the few downsides of my recent vacation was being out of the country for the beginning of season 2 of True Blood. Season 1 frequently left me breathless. Ryan Kwanten naked in nearly every episode was enough for the cost of an HBO subscription. The rest of the male cast are also gorgeous, including Sam Trammel, Stephen Moyer, and especially Alexander Skarsgård. I finally caught up with the first three episodes of season 2 yesterday, and was thrilled to see that Mehcad Brooks is showing up more frequently and in fewer and fewer clothes. Mehcad is one stunning specimen! I don’t know if I could decide between Ryan and Mehcad, if I were forced to choose between the two hunks (now that’s a nice fantasy!). The casting directors for this show have GOT to get a raise!

Vegan Muscle

For some reason MMA has never been able to hold my attention. Despite the frequent appearance of stunning looking beasts pounding and grinding on one another, the format doesn’t really do it for me. Perhaps it’s the chain-link (I know, not all MMA is caged). Perhaps it’s the board shorts (I know, MMA includes a variety of gear). I think most likely what really loses me is the over-injection of testosterone. It’s the same story told every fight. Whose gonads are pumping hardest, whose over-the-top ego-trip is backed up by more brutality? Somehow, all the ingredients for a turn on are there, but the formula just doesn’t do it for me. Despite this fact, I love that there was a vegan Ultimate Fighter champion. Now there’s a storyline twist that makes me smile. Hot kid, too!

Apropos of Nearly Nothing

This doesn’t have anything to do with wrestling, and I believe Marcus Schenkenberg is straight, but I’m posting this photo in honor of my recently completed European vacation. My tastes in men are pretty varied, but I certainly have a soft-spot for tall, gorgeous, shiny Scandinavians. I came home from vacation to find a few membership requests to the Producer’s Ring, so I’ll be processing those soon (thanks for your patience).

What Turned Me Gay (not really)

I distinctly remember being on a trip as a pre-teen, browsing magazine covers at the airport while the rest of my family amused themselves elsewhere, when I came across an issue of Muscle & Fitness with Bob Paris on the cover. I think this photo, above, may have been the exact photo I remember. I’d never seen anything more beautiful before in my life. It was before Bob came out, so he was mostly known for being a bodybuilder devoted to the aesthetics of the sport rather than the race for brute size. I guiltily bought muscle mags for several years after that (my pre-porn), and was so inspired to follow his coming out story. I assume it was hell for him, and he seemed to drop out of competitive bodybuilding soon after that. But seeing a world class athlete who was openly gay, not to mention drop-dead gorgeous, did my little gay heart good. Glad to see he’s still telling his story and looking beautiful.
